Transplanting: Seeds should be sown in flats about a month before moving outdoors. Before transplanting seeds outside, harden off your seedlings by placing the plants outside for a few hours each day, or by reducing the amount of water and the temperature. Make sure there is no chance of frost before moving plants outside.

Soil Preference: Rich, loamy, well-draining soil is best for leaf lettuce.
